Garlic soup - now THERE's a thought! Looks delish. Nick is a bit of a bargain hunter so I often end up with more fresh stuff than I can use at once - it also usually ends up in soups and sauces taking up space in my freezer!

If you separated the sprouting bulb into individual cloves and planted them in a little pot of compost, would you generate several new bulbs of garlic, I wonder? That would surely make the most of such an impulse buy?

"...appetite of a starved woolly mammoth" Lol! As for the soup, your feelings come across from you listing the ingredients in order of preparation rather than order of importance. Saffron, butter... you could almost stop there. Whatever you do, don't give Goon the whole week's budget and send him out for ginger and melon in case he comes back with Prince Harry and a large box of karela.

Great picture of the soup! I know what you mean about frugality, it seems I'm always skint but at least you get to know all the cheaper (and often more tasty) cuts of meat.
